Fall Back

Two years ago Mustard Seed Theatre debuted Falling, a play about a family with an autistic adult child. It was written by Deanna Jent, who has an autistic adult child, but Falling is not about her or her family. It's about all the mothers and fathers who practice what Jent calls "extreme parenting," doing everything in their power for a child who needs more than others. But beyond the specifics of plot and character, Falling is about loving someone who can't reciprocate that love in a way that is familiar and how that's not less rewarding than any other complex human relationship. Falling struck a resounding chord with audiences here in St. Louis, then went to off-Broadway (where it picked up a Drama Desk nomination) and Los Angeles. Now it's back in town, with most of the St. Louis original cast, for a limited time. Mustard Seed Theatre presents Falling at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday and at 2 and 5 p.m. Sunday (April 11 through May 4) at the Fontbonne University Fine Arts Theatre (6800 Wydown Boulevard; 314-719-8060 or www.mustardseedtheatre.com). Tickets are $30 to $35.
Thursdays, Fridays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 5 & 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 & 5 p.m. Starts: April 11. Continues through May 4, 2014
