The Observable Reading Series brings a pair of poets to St. Louis once a month. If you're sharp, you're a regular at these readings. If you only go to one, tonight's event, which features CM Burroughs and Kevin Prufer, is the reading you shouldn't miss. Burroughs is a Chicago-based poet who was nominated for the Pushcart Prize for her 2007 poem "Dear Incubator." It's a powerful, luminous piece written to the incubator that kept her alive in her infancy; it touches on the fragility of new life while evoking the power of the human spirit. The incubator exists as both a memory and an object, but also as a surrogate mother who faltered in its duties. Burroughs is very, very good. She and Prufer read at 7:30 p.m. at Llywelyn's Pub in the Central West End (4747 McPherson Avenue; www.stlouispoetrycenter.org/observable). Admission is a suggested $5 donation.
