Back to the Super-8 Era

Travel back to a time before DVD, Blu-ray and Netflix, when home-theater enthusiasts turned to Super-8 films for condensed fifteen-minute editions of their favorite movies. Tonight at 8 p.m. the Way Out Club (2525 South Jefferson Avenue; 314-664-7638) hosts Super-8 Time Travel Madness with a timeless lineup of era-hopping films that were originally released on this forgotten format. Front and center is the entire Planet of the Apes pentalogy, starting with the original Charlton Heston classic and continuing with its 1970s sequels: Beneath the Planet of the Apes; Escape from the Planet of the Apes; Conquest of the Planet of the Apes; and Battle for the Planet of the Apes. And while the technology does not yet exist to undo Tim Burton's reviled re-imagining from 2001, rest assured it won't be making an appearance here. Also showing are The Land That Time Forgot, Doctor Who and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., and a special three-reel, 50-minute edition of George Pal's 1960 sci-fi classic The Time Machine. All films will be projected on the big screen, and admission is just $3.
