Steven Spielberg ruined a lot of summers when Jaws debuted. An entire generation of kids were too terrified to even get in a pool, nevermind the ocean, after seeing the film. All it took was one older sister imitating the shark music -- Duh-dun. Duh-dun. -- at the edge of the pool and you became a diehard landlubber. But thirtysomething years later, Jaws is the ultimate summer movie. The leaders of a small seaside community try to keep their shark problem under wraps, despite the best intentions of a hydrophobic sheriff (Roy Scheider) who thinks public safety is paramount. You get gut-churning suspense, occasional flashes of carnage and a fantastic battle between old man (Robert Shaw) and sea creature (Bruce the mechanical shark). Stay safely on dry land and relive the terrors of childhood when the Reel Late film series presents Jaws at midnight on Friday and Saturday (July 4 and 5) at the Landmark Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-727-7271 or www.landmarktheatres.com). Tickets are $8.
