The repeal of Prohibition brought drinking back into the open, but it marked the end of the road for speakeasies, those covert establishments that kept thirsty Americans oiled on illegal booze. The Bootlegger's Bash, tonight from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at the Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-746-4599 or www.mohistory.org), lets you party in a re-created speakeasy without suffering through the social-engineering disaster of Prohibition. The party features a costume contest (with prizes for those most authentically dressed in 1920s attire), a complimentary dessert bar and -- of course -- a cash bar. The event coincides with the museum's ongoing American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition exhibit. Admission is $10 to $15.
Fri., Aug. 8, 8-10:30 p.m., 2014
