Crown Candy Kitchen

This North St. Louis institution, which boasts that it is the oldest soda fountain in the city, packs a crowd at lunchtime for its milkshakes and malts and standard luncheon menu of roast beef, BLTs, chili dogs and other sandwich fare. Crown Candy Kitchen was opened in 1913 by two Greeks who brought their confectionery skills to America, and the kitchen still creates its own chocolates today -- including dozens of figurines around the holidays. Here, you can partake in some sinful Heavenly Hash, melt-in-your-mouth pecan clusters or chocolate-covered Oreos. This candy counter isn't for nibblers: The minimum order is a quarter-pound.
