Best Hair Salon - 2001
Thu Do Hair Design
Readers' Choice: D-Zine Hair and Art Studio
With caramel-colored highlights in his glossy black hair, delicate European manners and a sardonic sense of humor, Hung Pham, whose American name is Victor, would seem, on first acquaintance, better suited to a chi-chi salon in downtown Clayton than to a charming but tired-looking storefront on South Grand. Nevertheless, Thu Do Hair Design is where you'll find this artist, lovingly tending to the locks of Vietnamese dowagers, Bosnian toddlers, middle-aged career women and Hispanic girls with butt-length, blown-out hair. Trading jabs with his ebullient assistant, Cesar (whose scalp massages are pure heaven), Victor deftly snips and fluffs, combs and scrutinizes. Although there are surely cheaper salons, none will leave you feeling so pretty and practical.
