Best Funky Children's-Theater Group St. Louis 2002 - DramaRama Theatre Company
Here is a truism that never goes away: The arts are an acquired taste. If we are not exposed to theater, music and dance as children, there is no reason to expect that we will value theater, music and dance as adults. You can't have too many children's theater groups: Characters & Company, for instance, deserves credit for offering children's theater (along with a hotdog and soda) every Saturday morning, and we hope that their faithful audience will follow them to a new home. But right now we prefer DramaRama, a relatively new group that only stages three shows a year, all of them musicals. The spirited theater company is run by Nicole Trueman, who was so charming two summers ago in New Line's Hair. In March, DramaRama's sassy musical version of Rapunzel (written by the creators of Friends) was a kick, at least as much fun for the parents as for the kids. This weekend and next, DramaRama is bringing Harriet & the Tortoise and the Hare to Chesterfield and Affton. Why not give this fledgling company a try? You might be -- as we were -- most agreeably surprised and impressed.
