The Wayback Machine
KDHX (88.1 FM)

On his Web site, Jeff "Kopper" Kopp, the DJ of KDHX's Wayback Machine, claims to play a lot of different music on his show: "'60s garage/psych-punk, '70s proto-punk, instrumental surf/hot rod, frantic R&B, mod, freakbeat, beer-soaked frat rock, broken blues, rockabilly/psychobilly" -- just to name some of the styles. But it all boils down to roots rock, rock either from or inspired by that time in the early and mid-'60s when rock had truly become its own style but had yet to split into squabbling genres. Tune in Tuesday nights from 10 till midnight and you'll hear real rock rebellion, music that pounds out from the heart with alarming passion, the kind of rock music that didn't need Satan to scare the squares. As we live through another period when rock & roll is at risk of dying out altogether, the artists played on The Wayback Machine have gone back to the well. (Some of them are the well.) The Wayback Machine also earns kudos for being a tireless supporter of local music, producing the Trouble in River City calendar of local events and spreading the love for St. Louis rockers both on and off the air.
