Mom would've made you a bowl of chicken noodle, but Mom's not around right now, and you need someone to make you something that'll make that damn cold go away or, at the very least, make you feel better. And so you head to Yen Ching, housed across the street from the Galleria in a modest, wood-paneled, blink-and-you-miss-it little building. Yen Ching's been in business here since 1974, and the staff always remembers your face and smiles, so it is something like Mom's. Except that here you'll be having the sizzling rice soup, one of the celebrity standouts among Yen Ching's 100-plus menu items and always good for what ails ya (with each swallow, you can practically hear the bacteria in your throat being zapped into oblivion). You might follow that up with an entrée of sweet-and-sour chicken, Szechuan shrimp, orange chicken.... Yen Ching is known for straightforward, traditional Chinese food, nothing fancy. It may not be the "it" spot, but it sure hits the spot.
