Artica

For a few days each September, Artica participants transform the industrial wasteland along the north St. Louis riverfront into an outdoor gallery of sculpture, music and anything-goes mayhem. The emphasis of Artica is public participation, with artists and audience members all taking part in the fun. Festivities include a parade along the riverfront, a boat launching (in which a flotilla of biodegradable rafts is sent downriver), interactive sculpture and landscape art, workshops and plenty of live music. Alas, this year's Artica recently wrapped up (September 18-19), but when the festival returns next year, you'll be ready.
