Variety Telethon

What a night for theater buffs! In April St. Louis Variety brought in six award-winning Broadway performers to entertain at the megabucks charity dinner that precedes the annual telethon. Later that night KMOV-TV (Channel 4) televised the concert so that we peons could hear some real theater music performed by real theater practitioners. As Brent Barrett, Jason Danieley, Sutton Foster, Marin Mazzie, Andrea McArdle and Faith Prince sang show-stopper after show-stopper, one began to appreciate how unique the evening really was. Performers of this caliber don't tour much anymore, and certainly not in a clump of six. Variety performed an act of charity simply by bringing such a cluster of talent to St. Louis all on the same night. Here's hoping the Variety Club'll do something similar next year.
