The Sawmill Band

After jumping around in the big ball pit, the Sawmill Band is the next best thing about being outside at the City Museum on a Thursday night. With no amplification, and frankly none necessary, five men stand under a tree's worth of art and with mandolin, guitar, banjo and upright bass in hand, pump out old-time and bluegrass tunes until the patrons of the Cabin Inn can't hold any more Schlafly. They sprinkle their selection with a range of original music but take care of the classics too -- all those toe-tapping, knee-slapping tunes you know when you hear and can sing along to, even as their name escapes you. Griffin's or the Shanti might host more established bands, but if you don't mind a little grit with your grass, then the Sawmill should more than cut your rug.
