Art on the Square
The world's -- or even the metro area's -- best artwork will likely not be found at Art on the Square. For starters, a fair amount of the paintings tend toward the Thomas Kincaid school. That Art on the Square overcomes its Kincaid quotient is testament to this mid-May fest's funky, communal vibe. Arrayed along an inviting little Main Street, Art on the Square is as much bluegrass festival as open-air art mart, suffused with an egalitarian vibe. Plus, it's in Belleville, which keeps getting better, year after year.
