Amazon lets you shop for books and music any time of day, in your PJs. The St. Louis County Library's Web site lets you do the exact same thing -- for free. Their catalog has more breadth and depth than Barnes & Noble's, the revamped home page is friendly in a Borders-ish way -- and it's free. Make a selection, choose the branch where you want to pick it up, and wait for the e-mail alert that lets you know it's in. Buying books causes clutter. Returning books when you're done reading them leaves you with a more well-informed and streamlined life. And it's free.
