At the turn of the last century, Creve Coeur Park was a resort area for St. Louis' well-to-do. More than a hundred years later, it still is: This jewel of the county parks system boasts a 320-acre lake for sailing, the renowned and bucolic Dripping Springs waterfall, numerous wildlife areas -- and six miles of paved trails for bikers, walkers, joggers and in-line skaters that traverse all these splendid sights and then some. The workout along the way isn't terribly strenuous, as the terrain is mostly flat. But it is picturesque -- great for people-watching on weekends, perfect for skating in silent and uncrowded solitude during the week. In that respect, it's the Forest Park of west county.
