Best Reporter (Newspaper Division) - 2005
Jill Moon worked for years as a freelance makeup artist before heading back to school. In December she'll graduate from Webster University with a degree in global journalism. Along the way the thirtysomething writer became the best reporter at the best student paper in Missouri. Moon's Journal reportage on budget overruns at the student cafeteria garnered first-place awards for In-Depth News Reporting and Investigative Reporting from the Missouri College Media Association, while the
Journal snagged the MCMA's Best in State honors, beating out even the University of Missouri's redoubtable Maneater. After a summer spent writing for the Alton Telegraph and the St. Louis Journalism Review, this fall Moon is interning at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
