G.A.D. Cigars

In the realm of tobacconists, there are cigar shops, and then there's G.A.D. Cigars. Founded five years ago by Baton Rouge transplant George Duvic, the cigar shop on the Hill consists of one enormous humidor. G.A.D. has even contracted with a Honduran cigar maker to create its own "G.A.D. Cigar," a smoky confection available in many forms. But the shop is the thing, and at around 5 p.m. most Thursday and Friday nights it transforms into an informal salon. Great stogies and great conversation abound (as does the occasional nip). Out back, Duvic and co-owner Tim Akin have built a gazebo where they host cigar parties and shrimp boils -- and sometimes a mean jambalaya. For those who like their stogies fresh and their conversation potent, there's nothing like this shop that's fast becoming an institution on the Hill.
