Calling an Amighetti's Special a roast beef sandwich is kind of like calling Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather a story about Italians. Piled high with roast beef, ham and salami, an Amighetti's Special makes its mark with the addition of lettuce, tomato, cheese, pickles, onions, pepperoncini and, of course, "special dressing." A bit sweet, a tad spicy, the Special contains none of the trendy ingredients—think sun-dried tomatoes and aioli—lesser sandwiches rely on for sex appeal. This sub doesn't need <\#213>em. The Special has been delighting diners for decades; the sandwich shop still makes its bread fresh each morning using recipes brought over from Italy. Like good gangster movies, the best recipes never go out of style.
