Love 'em or loathe 'em, the National Rifle Association packed some much-needed heat into our ever-evolving downtown this past April. With 64,562 attendees, the convention was an all-time record breaker for the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission and its struggling sibling, America's Center. So what if we were the fallback after a political firestorm prevented the gun nuts from convening as planned in Columbus, Ohio? The group never attracted that many folks when it held court in Milwaukee, Houston, Pittsburgh or Orlando. Not coincidentally, we hear they're considering a sequel meeting in St. Louis as early as 2011. Bull's-eye!
