Jasminka Homemade Cakes

Jasminka Malnar used to bring her homemade cakes to work. Her co-workers raved. They raved so much, in fact, that Malnar decided to open her own bakery. Now you can see for yourself how fantastic her desserts are: Bosnian sweets so rich and decadent that you should probably plan on only a (very) light meal before indulging in one (or two or even three). Most remarkable is a cake the size and shape of a regulation NFL football; inside you'll find a layer of cake, a layer of cream and two thick chunks of banana. Also terrific is a rum-soaked cake with ground nuts and chocolate icing. Best of all might be simple, lemon-infused cookies, perfect for dipping in a cup of strong black coffee.

I live near Jasminka and every week I stop by for coffee and a piece of cake. My daughters also love going there. The food is great and Jasminka and her son are a delight to talk to. This coffee shop is the closest thing to a friendly European cafe I have found.
