South city is a haven for doughnut lovers. Within a three-mile radius, one can pick from such long-john luminaries as World's Fair Doughnuts, O'Fashion Donuts and Donut Drive-In. While those mainstays are all dandy, there's a new kid in the neighborhood. Tucked away in the Southtown neighborhood, Eddie's is the most recent addition to the roster of south-city purveyors of doughy, fried treats. Eddie's doughnuts are firm without being too heavy — they won't deflate at the touch or weigh you down after just one. The gleaming window case offers a cornucopia of glazed goodness, with enough old favorites and innovations (like a caramel long john or a custard-filled, delicately dusted with powdered sugar) to fill out a baker's dozen — and then some.
