We know the word gym strikes fear and confusion into your being. Seriously, what is that, aside from the three-credit blow-off class you were forced to complete in high school? Heck, climbing the stairs to our office is a grueling enough workout to meet our daily quota; and hell, three out of five days we take the frickin' elevator. So how to explain our newfound passion for Upper Limits Rock Gym? Call it one of life's great mysteries. But Upper Limits' 10,000 square feet of climbing surface, including a 20-foot climbing room for beginners and a wide spectrum of ever-changing routes set at varying levels in the main 35-foot climbing area, has brought out the inner monkey in us. Fees are affordable, starting at $12 for a one-day pass ($14 on weekends). The gym is open from noon till 10 p.m. during the week, from 10 a.m. till 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. Sunday. Try it yourself and see: Once you've reached the top and slapped your hand on that cold metal beam — victory! — you'll never want to ride the elevator again.
