The intersection of Mitchell and Fairmount Avenues

True, it's hard to beat the breathtaking view from one of the downtown bridges. Sometimes, though, the best perspectives are found by accident, when their simple beauty takes you by surprise. Such is the case with the (humbler) view of downtown from the slight incline at the intersection of Mitchell and Fairmount Avenues in Dogtown. Especially on a cold winter's night: downtown in the distance, sparkling and beautiful, framed by the glowing Arch. It's enough to make you stop and ponder, the unexpected intimacy of this spot, which makes St. Louis seem like a big city and yet...not. In spring and summer, trees obscure the view a bit, but not entirely. Construction has reared its head in the area, so check out this view before it disappears forever.

I lived at this intersection for over a year in a two bedroom apartment with my husband. We never got tired of standing on the street looking at the arch and the rest of downtown. I must say the fireworks on New Years Eve were pretty amazing considering we weren\'t anywhere near the downtown parties.
