Best Vocalist (Male) St. Louis 2007 - Pat Liston

Readers' Choice: Tim Session
For Pat Liston, next year will mark a quarter-century after the founding of Mama's Pride, St. Louis' answer to Little Feat, though only their die-hard fans know that. The band's two classic albums have been locked in Atlantic vaults for years and still haven't seen proper reissue. Liston's band may yet do another reunion show, but if you want to hear one of the finest country soul singers in the Midwest, you'll have to catch one of his solo gigs (or his acoustic trio, which teams him with Scott Nienhaus and Karen Crawford). Liston has an Irish soul: He wails and moans with Celtic blues, carries an ageless folk melody with his gently rasping tenor (which sometimes recalls Stephen Stills, sometimes Wilson Pickett) and phrases with unrestrained, even torrential emotion.

I still remember listening to you on K-She all those years ago, and was so happy when I moved back home from Colorado, to see not only that you were still around, but playing in Alton (My Hometown). Keep trudging accross the tundra Pat...Can't wait to hear the new record.

Congratulations Pat on this long over due and deserved honor. I've always felt that You and Michael McDonald and your brother Danny were the best soul singers to ever come out of St. Louis! I remember reading in Rolling Stone Magazine back in 77 or 78 how Gregg Allman walked into a bar in Daytona Beach and saw Mama's Pride playing and started using you guys as his band. Gregg said in RS, "I found this kick ass band out of St. Louis called Mama's Pride". Keep Rockin Pat and on to the Grammy's!

Congratulations to a great vocalist from one of the greatest bands of all time, Mama's Pride. I've been telling people this for years, looks like they've finally found out for themselves.

Congrats, Patty, I'm tickled that St. Louis has finally recognized you for what you are: one terrific vocalist! The lucky ones that have known you for more years that I care to divulge also know that you are an incredible musician, father, and one of the best people I've had the good fortune to have ever met. God bless, my friend.

Pat - Congratulations! It is well deserved. You are having a good year. Remember what they say, "All good things come to he who waits",or , uhh "He who hesitates is lost" . . . I'm confused. Anyway, "One must listen before one will see.Isnt that strange . . . ? It seems so . . . to me!Now they have listened and now they can see.The thing that was evident . . . the way it should be.

Keep it comin'

Pat Liston is one incredible musician, vocalist, writer, and performer. Not only that but he now joins the rest of "us" called "Older Great Fathers"! He should have been a major star. I am thrilled to see you write something good about such an undiscovered talent.
