Civic Progress

This year saw St. Louis' Civic Progress release its second EP, Disposable, and have its debut EP, Petroleum Man, re-released by hardcore-punk tastemaker No Way Records. Along the way, the four-piece grew angrier and its live shows more sweaty and intense. Civic Progress is backed by a muddy bass guitar and the beats of prolific local drummer Tom Valli, while guitarist Robert Mayfield and vocalist Scott Plant round out the group that comprised St. Louis' best live punk show. Outside Mound City the band landed coveted spots on No Way Fest in 2007 and at the memorable Madison Fest in Wisconsin in March. The band played at home over the summer, always seeming to pick venues off the beaten path (a roller rink, a steel pier above the Mississippi River and a record store basement among them).
