Best Hip-Hop Club - 2008
The Loft Jazz Club
The Loft doesn't bang as hard as east-side hotspots like Club Casino or have the hipster cachet of the underground nights like Lucas School House's Café Soul. Yet it manages to strike a middle ground between the two. A pioneer in the now-popping midtown club scene, the Loft Jazz Club is a misnomer in that it doesn't feature jazz and isn't a loft. What it does offer is a crowd that looks like it came straight off the pages of Vibe, VIP booths that encircle a tastefully decorated and expansive open room and an always-crowded dance floor. Most important, of course, is the music, which runs the gamut from R&B to neo-soul to hip-hop, often provided by the DJs from WHHL Hot 104.1 FM.
My wife and I stood at the bar for 15 mins and could not get the bartender to wait on us. This lady "bartender" had a tattoo of a star on her lower back and was dressed rather trashy looking. It's not like she was busy with other customers, she just chose to ignore us. We called for her and she still would not acknowlege us. Needless to say, we left and will never go back. Don't waist your time going here.
