Dozens of past and present staff members at St. Louis public radio affiliate KWMU (90.7 FM) turned on Patty Wente with a vengeance. There were tales of how she upbraided station employees for the pettiest offenses, routinely made improper sexual comments and arrived intoxicated to KMWU events. Not long after Riverfront Times published a detailed account of Wente's troubled reign, the station's longtime general manager was summarily fired. Interestingly, many of the allegations concerning Wente's behavior were aired in an anonymous letter sent to her supervisors at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2004 — and ignored.
