Stagger Inn...again, is a poor forced choice bar if Big Daddy's down the street is too packed again. I've been in there several times where the bartender either rips me off or never correctly quotes the correct drink price. Calling this place a hole in the wall is an understatement. Furthermore, this place shows no remorse for their proud cries of hatred for America.
Best Neighborhood Bar (East Side) St. Louis 2008 - The Stagger Inn...Again
104 E. Vandalia
Edwardsville, IL 62025
You walk into the Stagger Inn...Again (the original bar closed for a disco successor) and you try to find a seat at the mahogany bar. The barstool is worn (and sometimes warm) and comfortable, and it sinks down like a cushy bicycle seat. When you're inside a bar that's just around the corner from Madison County's sterile granite courthouse, you're bound to be surrounded by life's rich pageant. Divorced electricians, longhaired musicians and the occasional lawyer belly up to the bar for a draft. "The lawyers used to come in here to drink, but now they all go to [a nearby wine bar] for their image," says one longtime employee, slightly disgusted at the thought.
