Best New BandThe Blind Eyes
With a lineup that consists of three-fourths of the late-great Sixties-pop revivalists the Gentlemen Callers, the Blind Eyes are no strangers to the St. Louis music scene. But the bouncy, stripped-down fervor of the trio's songs is a bit of a departure from its forebears' music. The Eyes' early recorded output calls to mind the late-'70s pub-rock of Elvis Costello and the bare-bones raucousness of Gang of Four and the Jam, but the key to this band's formula is the incorporation of plenty of infectious melodies while jazzy chord voicings and lush backup harmonies make it hard to keep from smiling. It's this atmosphere of light-hearted good times that make a Blind Eyes show a great night spent.
