Onesto has been open for barely half a year, and already it's well on its way to becoming a St. Louis favorite for tasty pizzas, pastas and sandwiches. Word quickly got out that the restaurant, tucked away in a residential area of the Southampton neighborhood, was a gem. On a weeknight a table is fairly easy to snag, but on a Friday or Saturday, you'll have to wait. Here's the thing: Onesto makes this usually frustrating experience enjoyable. The friendly hostess will take your name, and you'll be asked if you'd like a drink. You won't be crammed into a teeming bar or onto an overstuffed bench, though, while you wait for your table. Onesto's waiting space is a glorious front patio (also home to outdoor seating). Take your Schlafly APA or glass of wine outside and have a seat or walk around on the lawn or sidewalk. You're bound to run into someone you know; even if you don't, the relaxed backyard-party atmosphere makes it easy to strike up a conversation with others. When, suddenly, your table is ready, you hesitate — because even though you can't wait to order a giant salad and dig into a pizza, at Onesto, the waiting isn't the hardest part; it's one of the reasons you return again and again.
