There is a wine list at Starrs, but you don't need to see it. This restaurant is attached to a wine shop (Starrs Market), after all. Arrive early for dinner and peruse owner Bud Starr's wide and deep retail selection, which covers the expected regions and varietals without looking like it was copied out of a distributors' catalog. You can find pricey Bordeaux from acclaimed vintages, but you can also find rich, delicious Australian reds (without cute animals on the label) for less than $40. California reds are well represented and, for a special occasion, be sure to check out the reserve selection near the front of the store — or, for a special occasion on a budget, the selection of splits. Whatever you choose, the restaurant charges a reasonable corkage fee of $8. And if your wine retails for over $100, that fee is waived.
