The term "tribute band" is thrown around pretty loosely these days. But as the guys from El Monstero know, it takes a lot more than donning a wig and learning eighteen Pearl Jam songs to pull off the essence of another band's craft. Since formed in 1999 by Kevin Gagnepain (former bassist of '90s alterna-rockers Stir), El Monstero has added laser lights, costume changes, a 30-foot lift and, of course, pyro, baby! to its set of Pink Floyd covers. Judging by last winter's six-night run at the Pageant, the band shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Never underestimate the power of the classic-rock crowd in this town.
I think the band gets better each time I see them. This year I got to sit on the stage and of course I believe they were the greatest seats in the house. I have seen Pink Floyd, when they were still together and I believe El Monstero is just as great as they were. I also saw Roger Waters this year and I liked El Monstero a lot better. They put on a great show and they know how to rock this world...
