Boots Contemporary Art - CLOSED
2307 Cherokee St.
St. Louis, MO 63118
314-772-2668
After an impactful four years of programming, this Cherokee Street "art lab," founded by artist Juan Chavez, closed its doors. The small nonprofit space, which hosted performances and published a newspaper of sorts (Boot print) that featured interviews and reflections on the state of contemporary art, was the site of innumerable exhibition experiments, ranging from residencies to the Pedestrian Project (wherein artists utilized the gallery's street-side window only) to a series of local group shows. Boots leaves a footprint (sorry; couldn't resist) beyond its modest operating budget and physical scale. And Chavez's more recent projects hint that he might be moving his Boots to St. Louis' north side. Meanwhile the art lab's absence continues to be felt.
