I was visiting your fine city from Newport News, Va., and was anxious to hear an authentic blues/jazz band at your club on Friday, Oct. 22nd. Being a band manager myself, I was disappointed you didn't have an authentic blues band playing that evening. The music was marginal at best. The appetizers, fries and potato chips were fried in rancid oil and I sent them back. I did enjoy seeing your historic bar, but I would have loved to hear a full blues band. Thank you.
Best Blues Club - 2010
BB's Jazz, Blues & Soups
There are lots of places in St. Louis to hear the blues, but BB's Jazz, Blues & Soups stands apart, both as a music venue and as a sort of unofficial clubhouse for local blues musicians. Just a few blocks south of Busch Stadium, BB's has live music seven nights a week, with local and traveling bands playing to an ever-shifting mix of dedicated blues fans, younger folks just out for a good time and tourists seeking an authentic St. Louis blues experience. The styles on tap can range from solo performers playing acoustic music to full-out electric blues bands, with classic soul, R&B and the occasional jazz act also in the mix. Plus, the club's status as a popular after-gig hangout often means late-night sit-ins and the chance to hear unusual combinations of musicians. While it has some worthy competitors, BB's offers the largest year-round, indoor seating space and the most genre-focused, yet varied, menu of performers — once again earning the top spot in its category.
