In the course of our research, we hit every brewpub in town and can declare authoritatively that the Tap Room is still king. Let's start with the beer selection, which averages a dozen Schlafly beers, plus two cask beers — the expected standards and seasonals you know and love, plus a host of small batches available only at the Tap Room. Schlafly has been steadily improving its beers and, as the St. Louis craft beer market continues to improve, expand and mature, it has become a bit more daring in its brewing. The food has also been on an upswing since the arrival of chef Andy White. He has tweaked the menu by improving the classics, adding some new dishes and coming up with outstanding daily specials. The result is the elevation of the food from something merely to soak up beer with to a bona fide reason to head to the Tap Room in the first place. Top all that off with a beautiful, comfortable building that's been smoke-free since January, and the Tap Room is an ideal brewpub experience.
