Riverside Flea Market
There's nothing like a cool breeze off the Mississippi to add sparkle to a day of junk-hunting. The aptly named Riverside Flea Market in Grafton, Illinois, is held in the old Boatworks building, a high-ceilinged, breeze-filled space so close to the water, it's sometimes in it. (Seriously: Check your flood stages before heading north.) Vendors offer everything from collectible McCoy pottery to hand-beaded dream catchers and all the essential flea-bitten bric-a-brac in between. When you've had your fill of finding inedible objects, there's plenty of fried fish in the rest of Grafton to feed your more gastric hungers. In fact, the Loading Dock Bar & Grill, with its amazing view of the palisades, is right next door. The Riverside Flea Market is open from April to October on the fourth weekend of the month, plus the second weekend in June, July and August.
