Readers' Choice: Novak's Bar & Grill

We'll admit it: The first thing that drew us to this leather bar was its name. That and its scheduled rope-tying classes. (The saloon, which picked up its midtown stakes and moved to the Grove last year, teaches the techniques used in kabuki theater.) And, OK, the promise of fur suits and bondage gear for sale didn't hurt, either. But eventually we discovered the Bad Dog's cozy interior, which embraces both fetish parties and celebrations of the movie Grease. We learned, too, that underneath Bad Dog's bearish exterior beats a big heart: It contributes actively, both with time and money, to building St. Louis' gay community. And that's the moment we fell in love.

Have been around the bar scene in the area for a while and I do think the Bad Dog is the best out there. Really good drink prices, good food in their new kitchen and a fun crowd. I have always been welcomed by all the bartenders there and even so much as they remember what I drink!

I couldn't disagree more. Bad Dog is not the best gay bar in St. Louis. The staff is rude and pretentious especially “mustache mike”. Bad Dog does not embrace the true value of the gay community. St. Louis has 18 gay bars around the metro area. We have a lot better to offer than Bad Dog.
