The Piccadilly at Manhattan is no secret to residents of the city's Ellendale neighborhood. The Collida family opened the restaurant in the 1920s. After a five-year hiatus — and a thorough renovation — Nick and Maggie Collida reopened the Piccadilly in late 2007. Though hidden in an otherwise residential stretch at an intersection that doesn't get very much through traffic, this is no mere neighborhood joint. The classic American bar-and-grill fare is first-rate, especially the burger, a plump patty (or two, if you like) with that ideal balance of char and juicy meat, and the crisp fried chicken. If you're lucky, Nick Collida will be smoking baby-back ribs on the restaurant's patio. Fair warning, however: Allow time to wait for a table. This restaurant was packed even before we let the cat out of the bag.
