Comedian Bill Chott has gotten plenty of laughs outside of St. Louis through the years, thanks to his gigs on Saturday Night Live, The Dana Carvey Show and in The Ringer. But he gets even higher marks for never forgetting his hometown. The Overland native opened the Improv Trick, an improvisational comedy school and troupe, on Cherokee Street several years ago; last year the school garnered an RFT MasterMind Award. Modeled after his famous alma mater, Second City, in Chicago, the Trick schools students of all ages in both short- and long-form sketch. At night the show hits the road. Chott's troupe (under the direction of Marc Pruter when Chott is on a job in Los Angeles) performs every Tuesday evening at Lemmons (5800 Gravois Avenue; 314-481-4812). The show is different every week, of course, but it always features comedy of both the smart and bellyaching varieties. On a seasonal basis, the troupe also travels to other bars and venues; keep an eye on its website for details.
