Sure, Cherokee Street is having a resurgence, with new shops, galleries and restaurants opening all the time, but the Casa Loma Ballroom is no new kid on the block. For more than 50 years, the Casa Loma has been offering lessons, private events and the sweet magic of a romantic night out to the St. Louis masses. Friday nights offer the chance to dance to such local big bands as Second Generation Swing, the Ambassadors of Swing or the Original Knights of Swing. So get gussied up, grab your favorite guy or gal, and get ready to swing, tango and cha-cha to the "latest" hits from Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. If your dogs start barking, take a minute to relax at one of the tables along the perimeter, but don't miss out on the chance to pull your partner up to the large, wood dance floor for a slow jam — these are pure, head-on-his-shoulder classics. If you're lucky, owner Paul Brannon will greet you and have a chat, making this blast to the past even more inviting.
