Best Popcorn St. Louis 2010 - King Louies

Doug Meyer swears that popcorn's been a passion since he was a kid toying around with it at his grandparents' bakery. And in a sense, it still is a hobby. The marketing exec works nights and weekends popping the King Louies kernels that stock the shelves at City Gourmet downtown, Serendipity and Sweetie's Candy & Cones in Webster Groves, and Audi-K's in the Central West End. His bestseller is the humbly named "Assorted Mix," a bag containing both cheddar-dusted and caramel-covered popcorn. Sounds a little odd at first, but then you get into this awesome sugary-savory rhythm: one bite salty, one bite sweet. A small bag (generally $1.69 to $1.99) serves as a great teaser; for a party go for the extra-large option ($9.99 to $11.99). Meyer used to have a shop at Union Station but has migrated his sales to the previously mentioned retailers as well as his website.
