The Library

The Library, the aptly named venue housed in the former Soulard branch of the St. Louis Public Library, enjoyed a brief run in a spectacular setting. From late March 2009 to July 1 of this year, the venue booked a varied selection of local talent. While many bars and clubs can be classified by their adherence to a certain style or genre of music, the Library was open to all comers. If this come one/come all approach led to some less-than-stellar evenings, one could still marvel at the beautiful space, which retained the intellectual elegance of the building even while updating it for modern rock audiences. If nothing else, the Library offered more room than most of Soulard's tiny stages, and the repurposed space was a fine example our city's growing ability to make something new out of something old.
