Up with the St. Louis music scene!

The stars have aligned, and the writing is on the wall: 2010 has been a watershed year for music in our fair metropolis. From LouFest, our first legitimately eco-friendly festival with national headliners, to the recently announced St. Louis Blues Hall of Fame, St. Louis is shaking its too-long-held status as a flyover city. We sweated through Lady Gaga and Blitzen Trapper, tried buying Passion Pit tickets off Urban Outfitted fourteen-year-olds, cursed those pantywaists Kings of Leon for fleeing over bird poop, rocked out to the B-52s and gave a hero's welcome to homeboys Chuck Berry and Nelly downtown. New venues are cropping up, and many have hit their stride this year, keeping our calendars full with local CD-release parties, hip-hop shows, world-renowned DJs and the bloggiest hipster "it" bands. 2720 Cherokee. Foam. The Luminary Center for the Arts. Sol Lounge. Shows at the Pageant and the Firebird and Off Broadway continue to sell out regularly, even on weeknights. We're seeing live music every night, hitting multiple shows and DJ nights before our weary feet give out — and the PBR takes its inevitable toll. We've gone to bed with our ears ringing more nights than we can count, but one thing is clear in 2010: Concert tickets beat groceries every time.
