Top producers and top vintages abound. In prime-expense-account areas such as classified-growth Bordeaux, red and white Burgundy and California cabs, pricing is robust, but the selection is deep. Looking to drop a grand or more on an impeccably sourced and stored rarity? Truffles is the place to go. Step outside the famous names or into less-heralded regions, and there are plenty of interesting selections at downright reasonable prices. Add in proper stemware and a well-informed staff, and Truffles is a winner. As an added bonus, if you eat in the bar on Monday night, they'll take 50 percent off the price of about two-thirds of the bottles on the list — you read right: 50 percent — and 25 percent off the rest.
