Rockwell Knuckles

Readers' Choice: Readers' Choice: Nelly

Rockwell Knuckles may not be the first local lyricist to blur the line between singing and rapping, but that's not to say he's unoriginal. In fact, Rocky's originality is likely his strongest asset; his exaggerated vocal styling and unconventional approach to the genre put him in a class all his own. His latest album, You're Fucking Out, I'm Fucking In, offers a diverse array of sonic textures, from Adult Fur's electro/experimental production to Trifeckta's nostalgic samples and Southern-fried synths. While Knuckles already had a reputation locally as an artist to watch, the album's lead single, "Silly Human," snagged the north-side native some well-deserved national attention earlier this summer as an NPR "Song of the Day" and a spotlighted track in Spin magazine.
