MU330 at the Firebird
Although most of its members still live in St. Louis, MU330 experienced a triumphant homecoming in June, returning to its natural location: the stage. The local ska band, which formed in 1988 and has more than 2,000 shows under its belt, played its first concert in years at a packed Firebird (2706 Olive Street; 314-535-0353; www.firebirdstl.com). Both MU330 and its fans had grown a bit older, but neither had lost a step. Thirty- and forty-year-old fans skanked and shouted along to "Hoosier Love" like it was 1998, while the quintet matched the crowd's boundless enthusiasm in its tight performance. It was clear from its members' jubilant expressions that the band was just as thrilled as its fans to be at another MU330 show. RFT's Michael Dauphin, who reviewed the show, called it "hands down: best show of 1998 in 2011."
