Anyone who lives in west county knows that the three most popular bars are French Quarter, Alibi 25, and the Haus. Period.

A friend once described Smitty's as a "1950s 'air-conditioned' south St. Louis tavern tucked into a Chesterfield strip mall." We can't argue with that assessment. From its wood-paneled walls to its shuffleboard table and the personalized license plate above the bar reading "I-Gota-P," Smitty's is about as unpretentious a place as you'll find in the far-flung regions of west county. While its great comfort food appeals to a somewhat older crowd during the afternoons (may we suggest the chicken-fried steak and mashed potatoes?), evenings and weekends bring a slightly younger crowd in for Cardinals games on the telly or cover bands playing in the restaurant. As at south St. Louis bars, the draft beers are mostly of the Anheuser-Busch variety, but they do come ice cold.
