Quincy Street Bistro meets all the obvious requirements for a great neighborhood restaurant: It exudes a casual, come-as-you-are feel; the staff is friendly; the grub is tasty and inexpensive. Whether you want a beer and a bite while you watch the game or a sit-down meal with friends and family, you'll be satisfied. The burgers are excellent — the "One-Eyed Jack," topped with smoked Gouda, an onion ring and the house bourbon-barbecue sauce, is plenty for two to share — and the St. Louis-style pizza is liable to convert even the staunchest anti-Provelite. Yet Quincy Street's neighborhood vibe runs deeper than this. Like so many city residents before them, owners Mike Enright and Kevin Winkler have painstakingly rehabbed an old building (the former Jimmie's Saloon), giving it a contemporary feel while honoring its roots. Yes, there are flat-screen TV sets on the walls, and the dining room is painted a contemporary shade of green, but sitting at the gorgeous old bar, you feel a connection to the generations who have sat here before you, enjoying some refreshment and company after another day making a living in the city — and making the city a place to live.
