The spiffy retro sign outside this Central West End dive promises Budweiser on tap. Although it doesn't serve plain old Bud on tap, J&A's does pour Bud Lite, Bud Select and Michelob Golden Light draughts. But the other delights you'll find here can't be summarized quite so easily on a marquee: cheerful barkeeps, a menu of cheap pub grub, the Cardinals game on TV and a clientele that's friendly without being in your face. All of these make J & A's a good spot to drown your sorrows after a bad day at work — whether you want to nurse your drink in brooding silence or make new friends, you'll be just fine here. Still, one additional (and unusual) feature clinches this bar's supremacy: J & A's also sells booze to go. Not only can you drink here till you're feeling better about life, but you can also procure a $5.50 flask of off-brand gin for the road.
